It’s not just work; it’s a calling!
A Social Worker in spirit, with a strong inclination towards helping others, I was given a monicker at school – “Lady with the Lamp” (aka Florence Nightingale, the Founder of modern nursing). Having witnessed the adversities that a vast range of psychosocial disadvantages can present, it is my calling to help people to overcome them.
I have worked in Customer Service roles in a few organizations – media conglomerate and NGOs. I believe each step and each milestone in my career has brought me closer to my life purpose – to make others happier and healthier.
Having lost my father in my early teens, my mother’s role changed from a homemaker to breadwinner, overnight. I was practically raised by my grandmother who was my mentor, in many ways. During the decade that I spent with her, I subconsciously learnt about the challenges and “invisible disabilities” of senior citizens and how resilient the elderly are in managing it all, despite the constraints.
Later in life, as a single parent, I raised my son with the same values and legacy of nurturing, that I imbibed from my grandparents. My son, who wanted to be a Vet at one point in time, changed his subject of study and went on to become an Occupational Therapist (OT). My daughter-in-law, his best friend from college days, is also an OT and they work with the same organization, supporting children with special needs. Together at home, we take care of a fur baby – a Persian Cat.
Bachelors in Home Science from University of Delhi (because my grandmother pursued the same!)
Amongst my interests are lifestyle and Healing Modalities such as Yoga, Meditation & Chanting, healthy eating, conscious living, for increasing longevity, health and happiness. I am a member of some communities (both physical and virtual) that pursue the same interests.
